SERVICES

An independent college counselor can offer the individualized attention needed for every aspect of the application process. In assessing each student individually, we are able to provide the personalized experience every applicant deserves, from course registration to career assessment and everything in between.

 

Here is a broad overview of a four-year counseling plan. 

Freshman and Sophomore Year (9&10)

  • establish student and parent goals and expectations for the process

  • review and optimize course selection based on student abilities and interests

  • identify and encourage involvement in extracurricular activities

  • suggest opportunities for summer pursuits, including work and internship possibilities

  • strategize testing options and create a testing timeline

Junior Year (11)

  • identify prospective colleges for in-depth research

  • explore college majors and career opportunities based on emerging interests

  • introduce personality and career assessments 

  • maintain student activities sheet 

  • review transcript to ensure all requirements are fulfilled 

  • review and re-assess testing options 

  • curate initial college list

  • provide overview of application process and types of college applications

  • discuss college affordability with parents

Senior Year (12)

  • review and discuss the University of California and Common App personal essay prompts

  • work with students on developing ideas for college writing

  • collaborative feedback on personal statements and supplemental essays

First Semester Senior Year​​

  • finalize student college list

  • identify role of finances in application process

  • finalize the application strategy

  • assist students in creating a professional resume

  • prepare for and conduct mock interviews

  • monitor student application and financial aid deadlines

Second Semester Senior Year​

  • guide students through deferral and waitlist processes 

  • review acceptances, and interpret financial award letters

  • guide student through transition to college, including financial and social aspects
